LBS to consolidate top 50 rating

You already know that two years in a row now, the LBS has been named as a Global Top 50 Business School. Little wonder its alumni association LBSAA is leaving nothing to chance to ensure the prestigious school continually takes its place among the best on an annual basis. To achieve this end, the alumni president, Mr. Babatunde Dabiri said recently that the alumni association was setting up an Endowment/Development Fund. “Proceeds from (the fund)”, he said, “will help improve facilities, foster research and improve the quality of the faculty”.

UNILAG Staff and students to get Laptops

Prof. Tolu Odugbemi, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, has promised that Unilag will give every staff and student a laptop each by the end of March 2009. Not free, mind you, but at a subsidised rate, and this through a partnership with Microsoft Corporation. Prof. Odugbemi said during an interactive session between the university and Microsoft that, “We would liaise with various agencies to ensure that all staff of the University can own a personal computer or a laptop, and this can be purchased instalmentally”. Great Akokites, this makes 209 a year to look forward to. You heard it from your VC. The man will deliver your laptops next year – if you have your initial payment ready!

UNN VC, Prof. C Nebo has charged Nigerian youths to develop themselves to be the leaders of tomorrow. While speaking at the 40th anniversary lecture of the Nigerian Fellowship if Evangelical Students (NIFES) in Lagos, he said the change or transformation we desire could only be realized through the youths. Speaking through his deputy, Prof. Kalu Onuoha, Nebo said “Integrity is an important result of life's transformation. Part of the ills of the country is because a large segment of our leaders are not people of integrity. This country is going to change, our nation is going to be transformed and our young students will constitute the agents for this transformation”.

NPF Microfinance Bank declares N286m profits after tax

NPF Microfinance Bank recently declared a profit after tax of N286 million for its 2007 financial year. This shows a 73.2 per cent increase over 2006, which was N165 million. Mrs. Rachael Iyamabo, the bank's chairman disclosed at the 14th annual general meeting of the bank, that the gross earning of the bank also increased from N638 million in 2006 to N943 million in 2007, an increase of 48 per cent while its total assets rose from N4.646 billion in year 2006 to N5, 037 billion in 2007. She further revealed that NPF Microfinance had opened branches in Kano and Port Harcourt thereby increasing its branch network to five. The Central Bank had earlier given approval for the bank to operate as a state microfinance bank in all 121 police zonal commands in Nigeria. As these profits are being declared, we hope it will help lift a lot of police men and women out of poverty. We insist that these profits must show in the lives of our police people. That's what microfinance banks are about.
